Phi Theta Kappa


Who Are We

El Centro Sigma Tau Chapter is a distinguished Five Star Level Chapter, one of the Top 100 Chapters, and the Texas Top Chapter in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. We are an honor community currently comprised with over 300 high achieving El Centro College students and more than 1000 El Centro college graduates and alumni.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter shall provide opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship with scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

 

Our Mission


 Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Tau's mission is two-fold:
  •  Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students.
  •  Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship  programming.
 

Our Awards

 
El Centro’s Sigma Tau Chapter also received a number of regional awards. Our chapter has been honored with the Texas Top Chapter Award—an award in which over 80 Texas chapters are considered for. We also received the 2016 Honors in Action and College Project Participation Award as well as the 2016 Hallmark Awards Program Participant Award.

Advisor Karen Stills Royster received the Horizon Award, a recognition for emerging advisors who have made positive contributions to their chapter.
