About the Administrator

 Jane VanDeventer has dedicated 25 years of service to the Dallas County Community College District. In 1994, she took over the El Centro Jail Education Program. As administrator, Ms. VanDeventer has spearheaded innovative program development such as 5 computer software training certifications, food management, art, human development, and welding. Jane has led the program to major expansion as administrator. Since 1997, the Jail Education Program has expanded by 950 percent.

Due to hard work, innovation, and close partnership with the Dallas County Sherriff's Department, Ms. VanDeventer now has 14 classrooms in full function for educational purposes--including 6 computer labs, and 1 welding simulation class.

Each year the Jail Education Program offers over 220 college courses to over 250 students. For the 2009-2010 school year alone Jane's program has offered over 106,304 contact hours and currently has a staff of over 45 individuals.

Ms. VanDeventer plans on continuing to expand the Jail Education Program by continuing to be innovative, and assuring that her program offers courses and certification that meet the needs of the competitive and ever changing workforce. An important goal for the students of this program is to lower recidivism rates which benefits citizens of our community.


Statistics

Each year the Jail Education Program offers over 140 college courses to over 1700 students. For the 2010-2011 school year alone Jane's program has offered over 128,496 contact hours and currently has a staff of over 30 individuals. .

Ms. VanDeventer continues to expand the Jail Education Program through innovative, and assurance that the program offers courses and certification that meet the needs of the competitive and ever-changing workforce. An important goal for the students of this program is to lower recidivism rates which benefits citizens and families of our community.
