El Centro College Students Display Work During
Dallas Summer Musicals’ Production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS

(January 17, 2017) Dallas, TX – Sixteen El Centro College fashion students enrolled in the Special Topics in Fashion Design and Illustration class, under the direction of Brenda Carlson (Program Coordinator), designed fashion pieces that will be on display during the new Tony Award®-winning musical AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. The pieces were inspired by the musical, which is showing at the Music Hall at Fair Park January 31- February 12.

The Special Topics class was much like the notable reality TV show Project Runway; the students did not know their challenge and their guest mentor until mid-October. They had six weeks to create sketches, make prototypes and create the finished garments. They were mentored by local theatrical costumer and fashion designer Rob Bradford, who offered critiques along their journey.

Students in the Special Topics class include: Elizabeth Hollingsworth, Forrest Valdez, Joohee Jeong, Toan Dang, Yesica Hernandez, Suzette Samm, Christina Nuckolls, Raul Hurtado, Noha Kamel, Augustina Dor, Jessica Gowans, Sergio Nieto, Marco Pacheco, Maria Grisolia, Adela Wilkinson and Farisha Arif. Many of the designers will be at the performance on February 1.

El Centro College is a sponsor of Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) and DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.
